10 Game-Changing Presser feet
No. 1: PRESSER FOOT WITH SIDE CUTTER
This presser foot has a tiny knife and trim excess seam allowance when sewing. Pair it with overcast stitch to create mock-overlock effect. TIP: cut in fabric 2cm before feeding it through the presser foot.
No. 2: COMPENSATING PRESSER FOOT
One side of the presser foot is lower, to compensate for the bulky seam. Position the presser foot, so that the lower side goes right along the bulky seam edge. The presser foot evenly feeds the fabric and creates beautiful topstitching, always same distance from fabric edge.
TIP: use different needle position to sew at 1mm, 3mm or 8mm from the seam edge.
No. 3: EDGE JOINING PRESSER FOOT
Edge joining presser foot has a tiny 'fin' at the button that helps sew along fabric edge or follow already made seam. With a help of this presser foot, you can join two fabrics without them overlapping (the fabrics will be joined to stay side by side) or conceal a seam using a decorative stitch.
No. 4: GATHERING FOOT
There are two ways how to use gathering foot: gather single layer of fabric or join two layers of fabric, gathering bottom one and keeping top one flat (all with a single seam!).
TIP: use higher tension and longer stitch length for more gathers!
No. 5: RUFFLER FOOT
This presser foot will create pleats with a single seam. One ruffler presser foot, select where you want the pleats to be formed (ever single stitch, every 6th stitch, every 12th stitch, etc.) and simply sew with a straight stitch, while the presser foot does all the work!
TIP: this presser foot needs precise adjustment before start sewing, so carefully read the presser foot manual before you start sewing!
No. 6: INVISIBLE ZIPPER FOOT
Invisible zipper has two grooves: when sewing one side of the invisible zipper, put one side of zipper teeth to one groove; when sewing second side - to the other groove. The invisible zipper foot makes a seam very close to the zipper teeth, allowing to create a truly invisible zipper.
No. 7: BINDER FOOT
The binder foot attaches bias tape (both pre-folded and not folded) to the fabric with just one seam.
TIP: before sewing, make a short test seam, to check if the needle goes along the bias tape edge. If not - adjust the needle position.
No. 8: NARROW HEM FOOT
Narrow hem foot folds edge of the fabric, creating rolled hem seam finish. Using this presser foot, you'll be able to create a beautiful seam finish very fast and effortlessly.
No. 9: TEFLON FOOT WITH ROLLERS
When sewing tricky materials (like vinyl, faux leather), regular metal presser foot may have difficult time feeding fabric through the sewing machine. Instead, try presser foot from Teflon - it ensure easy glide, making it easier to sew tricky materials. Teflon foot may also come with rollers, making it even easier to sew smoothly.
No. 10: DUAL FEED PRESSER FOOT
This is a motorized presser foot that's compatible with certain sewing machine models (for example, Brother Stellaire 2 sewing and embroidery machine). Dual feed presser foot moves top layer of the fabric, while machine feed dogs take care of the bottom layer. Because of that, dual feed presser foot is great when working with difficult-to-sew fabrics or where you need extra precision, like matching print or seams.
